What is the difference between aluminum coils and copper coils?
The coils of the dry type transformers could be made of aluminum or copper, it depends on customer’s requirements, but normally aluminum material is suggested in dry type transformers, differently with oil type transformers, the coils of dry type transformers are casted in epoxy resin, the resin casted windings already have enough mechanical strength to withstand short circuit current, and aluminum have better heat dissipation ability than copper, the most important is that aluminum coil is more economy(the cost of the aluminum dry type transformers are around 60-70% of the copper transformers), but copper windings dry type transformers is more compact in size, it’s a good choice for the customer who have limited installation space.

What is the difference between dry type transformer and oil?
Dry-type transformers use air as the cooling medium, while oil-filled transformers use oil instead of air. Some public places do not use oil-filled transformers because they are a big fire hazard and, instead, use dry-type transformers. This is because the liquid being used is flammable.
