How should I choose between an oil-immersed transformer and a dry-type transformer?
When choosing between oil-immersed transformers and dry-type transformers, you can compare them based on the following
aspects and make a choice according to specific needs:
Safety: oil-immersed transformers have high fire resistance due to the presence of insulating oil, which can inhibit the spread of
fire. The dry-type transformer, on the other hand, does not contain insulating oil, and is safer to apply and does not pollute the
environment. Therefore, in terms of safety, oil-immersed transformers are more advantageous.
Maintenance costs: oil-immersed transformers need to regularly check the oil quality and insulation performance, and need to
buy insulating oil and maintenance equipment, maintenance costs are higher. And dry-type transformers do not need to
maintain the insulating oil, maintenance costs are lower.
Environmental adaptability: dry-type transformer does not involve insulating oil, adapt to a wider range of environments. It is
relatively low on temperature and humidity requirements, and can be installed in the indoor use. Oil-immersed transformers,
on the other hand, need to be installed in a locally ventilated and waterproof base environment, and have higher requirements
for temperature and humidity.
Load adaptability: oil-immersed transformers are able to withstand large load changes due to the better heat dissipation
performance of the insulating oil. And dry-type transformer heat dissipation performance is poor, adapt to smaller load
changes.
Finally: if you need higher safety and load adaptability, and can invest in higher maintenance costs, then the oil-immersed
transformer is a good choice. And if you want reduced maintenance costs that can be adapted to a wide range of environments,
then a dry-type transformer may be better suited to your needs.
